Former DOC employees among those indicted on arson, drug charges

Six people are indicted in connection to five crimes reported in the South Dakota prison system.

Two of those charges are former Department of Corrections staff members.

A former DOC medication aide, Madyson Bixby, is accused of giving an inmate a cell phone, and also faces an arson charge. The Attorney General’s office said she conspired with an inmate and a Sioux Falls woman to burn someone else’s car. The arson took place in Sioux Falls on Jan. 4, 2024.

Another DOC nurse, Alexis Hiller, faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession with intent to deliver to an inmate. That substance was buprenorphine, an opioid painkiller with high addiction risk.

Other cases include cases include inmates accused of assault, possession of weapons and drug possession.
