U.S. DOJ charges foreign nationals in 2021 SD Mines bomb threat

South Dakota School of Mines & Technology

The U.S. Department of Justice is charging two foreign nationals in "swatting" attacks and several bomb threats, including the bomb threat at SD Mines in 2021.

Thomasz Szabo of Romania and Nemanja Radovanovic of Serbia are both charged with 29 counts of threats and false information regarding explosives, along with other counts of threats and conspiracy.

"Swatting" is where a false emergency is called in to provoke a police response at a victim’s home.

The DOJ says the pair made threats to over 100 individuals, several businesses and religious institutions, and one university since 2020.
