The South Dakota Supreme Court is suspending former Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg’s law license for six months, according to an order released Thursday morning.
Ravnsborg was impeached and removed from office for his role in a car crash that took like life of pedestrian Joe Boever.
State lawmakers narrowly impeached and removed him from office in 2022. He’s prohibited from holding state office ever again.
The state bar disciplinary board, which brought the action, recommend Ravnsborg’s law license be suspended for 26-months retroactive to his removal from office.
That suspension time-period mirrors how long Gov. Bill Janklow went without his license after killing a motorcyclist in a car crash.
The 26-months expired in August.
Ravnsborg, a member of the US Army Reserves, has not returned requests for comment. He’s not practiced law since his removal and is last known to be on military duty out of state.
The soonest Ravnsborg can practice law in South Dakota again is March 18.
