Sioux Falls police are asking for the public’s help in a shooting that left a woman injured.

It happened early Tuesday morning in a neighborhood just east of downtown. Police said a 41-year-old woman was in her home when a bullet struck her in the arm. Her injuries were non-life-threatening.

Sioux Falls police Sam Clemens said the department is looking to residents for answers.

“This is one of the types of situations that we really ask the public to help us out. A lot of the time they’re going to see something. And those pieces of information can be very valuable to an investigation," Clemens said. "So, we would like people to call police or Crime Stoppers and share what they have. When people hear gunshots, they look outside, they see things. And those pieces of information, what they see, if it’s a car, license plates are great, even a general description can help detectives."

The police do not know whether the shooting was targeted or random.

Clemens said anyone with information should reach out to authorities soon as possible. This can be done by calling the police department at 605-367-7212 or Crime Stoppers at 605-367-7007.
