A Pine Ridge man is sentenced to over six years in a federal prison for allegedly assaulting federal officers.

Thirty-one-year-old Jeremy Crow was found guilty of the assaults that occurred in December of 2023.

Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety was dispatched to an area of the Pine Ridge Reservation after an unknown individual called 911.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of South Dakota, a single tribal officer arrived on scene and believed Crow to be under the influence of a controlled substance. The officer attempted to detain Crow, who then pushed the officer backwards.

Crow jumped in the officer’s vehicle and tried to drive off. The officer turned the ignition off and removed Crow from the vehicle.

Crow continued to resist arrest, which led to the officer tasing Crow. It did not entirely subdue Crow. A bystander noticed the altercation and called backup for the officer.

Additional officers arrived and handcuffed Crow. During the handcuffing, Crow bit the original officer and spat on one of the backup officers in the vehicle.

He was taken to jail. Authorities say two days later an officer tried to give Crow food and drink. When the cell door opened Crow forced his way out.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Crow resisted the corrections officers’ attempts to capture him again and bit two of the officers.
