Sioux Falls Police say a 38-year-old man was shot and died in an apartment complex on December 26th.

Michael Colwill is a Captain with the Sioux Falls Police Department.

“The victim has been identified as Michael Christopher McDonald. At this time, we believe the victim was shot once in the leg with a small caliber weapon but are waiting for the autopsy which will take place next week to confirm those results," said Cowill. "Based on the information we have gathered so far; we believe that the suspect and victim in this case are known to each other. And we have recovered the firearm that we believe was used in this incident.”

Colwill said because the victim and assailant knew each other, the incident is not cause for public concern.

He said an arrest has not been made but that the department has a person of interest in the case.

“This isn’t a crime that occurred between strangers. We do believe that this is an isolated incident between two people that are familiar with each other,” said Colwill.

Colwill said there is no motive that can be given at this time.
