The Sioux Falls Police Department is asking for the public’s help with information related to a series of car vandalisms.
Over 30 cars had windows shattered in four different locations over the weekend, authorities said. No valuables were taken.
Four were broken on the 300 block of North Holly Avenue on Saturday morning. On Sunday morning, 17 cars had windows broken near the 300 block of South Ellis Road, nine on Cathy and West 45th Street and three on Equestrian Place.
Sam Clemens is the spokesperson for the SFPD. He said it’s hard to prevent such crimes.
“People hear noises outside, you know, look outside. If you see something unusual like people breaking car windows, call police. If it looks like people are checking car doors to see if they’re unlocked, which happens too, call police," Clemens said. "Those little things, if people are just aware of their surroundings can aid us in not necessarily trying to prevent that but finding the people that are committing that. And if we get that information sooner, it’s easier to find them than it is to track them after the fact."
Clemens said the police are expecting the total number of vandalisms to grow as more people report.
Police have no leads as to who the suspects are or how the windows were broken.
The department asks if you have information, footage or anything else to aid the investigation please contact SFPD or Crime Stoppers immediately.
