Former DOC employee receives sentence for aiding arson plot

(File)

The Attorney General has announced the sentence of a former Department of Corrections employee.

Twenty-two-year-old Madyson Bixby, a former DOC medication aide, has pleaded guilty to a count of compounding a felony and one count of possession of an unauthorized article. That unauthorized item was a cell phone intended to be given to an inmate, according to the Department of Corrections.

These charges are in connection to a conspiracy between Bixby and an inmate to commit arson on a vehicle in Sioux Falls. Prosecutors had asked for a four-year sentence.

Bixby was sentenced to two years in prison on each count. Those years in prison are suspended sentences, meaning she will face no further time in state prison assuming she meets the terms of her parole.
