A former state prison employee who admitted to having inappropriate contact with an inmate is sentenced to 90 days in prison.

Thirty-six-year-old Cassandra Jelsma previously pleaded guilty to one count of prohibited sexual act between a prison employee and a prisoner.

According to Attorney General Marty Jackley, the incident involved an inmate at Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield between late 2022 and early 2023.. Jelsma was a prison employee at the time.

“This behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the vast majority of good employees who work in our correctional facilities,” Jackley said.
