State prison facilities in Sioux Falls is being placed on lockdown status.
Department of Corrections officials said the lockdown took effect Tuesday morning and remains in place "until further notice."
Officials are not specifying what prompted the lockdown, though they have said it is not in response to any sort of disturbance or assault.
Essential operations like clinical services and meals are continuing, but in-person visitation is not allowed during the lockdown.
A similar lockdown at Sioux Falls prison facilities took place last fall and lasted over two weeks. DOC officials didn’t say what spurred that lockdown until after it ended, eventually clarifying it was a proactive security measure to cut down on contraband in the prison.
