Rapid City police investigating homicide after body found under bridge

The Rapid City Police Department is investigating the death of a man in a makeshift encampment under the I-190 bridge as a homicide.

Sixty-four-year-old Jerry Evans' body was found March 24. Police say he was found at a “purposely inconspicuous” portion of the bridge camp.

Newly released information from police spokesperson Brendyn Medina suggests Evans’ death has been ruled as the result of blunt force trauma.

Witnesses have been interviewed about the incident, and authorities say there is no reason to believe there is a current threat to the public.

Alongside the RCPD, the state Highway Patrol, and Pennington County Sheriff’s and Search and Rescue offices are assisting in the investigation.
