The Rosebud Sioux Tribe has declared a state of emergency, the second tribal government to do so this year following a similar declaration in Pine Ridge.
President Kathleen Wooden Knife said she declared the emergency due to escalating drug trafficking, use and associated violence, particularly involving firearms.
Representatives from the tribe have not returned request for comment.
In the interim, increased patrols and support from federal agencies are expected. Additionally, tribal government requests cooperation from the community during the emergency.
Two similar emergencies were declared in 2019 and 2024.
