Voters in the Lennox School District have widely approved a $17 million bond issue. That money will be investing in the growing communities school spaces.
As Lennox has continued to grow, the local school facilities haven’t been able to keep pace. The bond issue vote should alleviate that pain though.
Superintendent Chad Conaway said on one hand are investments in the schools’ fine arts programs.
“Our current lunchroom also serves as our auditorium for fine arts performances," Conaway said. "So, in the bigger picture of this project we’re looking at a performing arts center. One of the things we hear from our students and our fine arts folk is the space works and it’s nice, but it just doesn’t function as well as a designated performing arts center would.”
On the other hand, added space for athletic programs.
“Going back to shared spaces would be our gymnasium. We have one gym for all six grades," Conaway said. "We’re adding an auxiliary gym which will help alleviate some scheduling conflicts that exist within our day as it relates to P.E. Off of that is a larger weight room. Again, original weight room was built twenty-something years ago for 500 kids, now we’re exceeding that, programs are getting bigger.”
After tallying the votes, the bond issue cleared the 60 percent approval hurdle by 14 percentage points. Conaway said it’s reflective of local support.
“Seventy-four percent of voters approving this project is telling that they continue to support our schools," Conaway said. "I’m excited for our staff, students and our community. I think it’s going to be a great project that allows us to continue to grow into that facility.”
Construction is slated to begin in April 2024 and finish in May 2025.
