Langford superintendent's teaching certificate revoked

Langford School District

The Langford School District needs a new superintendent after the state secretary of education revoked the previous superintendent's teaching certificate.

Ryan Bruns had been superintendent of the district since 2014.

An order issued by Secretary Joe Graves alleges Bruns became intoxicated and had disputes with fellow school administrators on multiple occasions between 2021 and 2022.

Further, a formal complaint was submitted to the local school board in September of last year focusing on Bruns treatment of a female student wearing a top he considered “inappropriate” at a sporting event. That led to a formal letter of reprimand for Burns after it was determined the interaction violated the district’s bullying policy.

The state Professional Administrators Practices and Standards Commission recommended a three-year suspension for Bruns. Secretary Graves later overruled the board and formally revoked Bruns’ teaching certificate.

In his order, Graves also contended Bruns terminated a district employee as an act of retaliation, and cited that as additional justification for the decision.
