Despite funding shortfalls, Black Hills State has been reaccredited for the next decade with honors.
The Higher Learning Commission, or HLC, affirmed BH’s accreditation through the 2032-33 school year.
BH was also given the opportunity to select the date of their next review process. The university says that’s the best possible result from the HLC.
Retiring university president Laurie Nichols said faculty and staff advocates allowed BH to see such a positive outcome.
During budget requests this summer, Nichols requested over $3 million to close the funding gap between BH and other state institutions. In the final budget request, just under $1 million was allocated toward that goal.
