Hamlin school district received a grant totaling over $1 million dollars for new career and technical education equipment.
This grant comes from the state legislature’s 2023 legislative session that set aside $5 million dollars for CTE programs.
Hamlin is currently constructing a new CTE facility that will offer programs in architecture, construction, manufacturing, health science, and hospitality.
The grant will provide the new facility with welding equipment, health care simulators, commercial food service equipment, and more, according to the state Department of Education.
This provides students the opportunity to match their education with their future career or post-secondary education programs.
Students from Hamlin, Estelline and Arlington school districts will have access to the new facility and its equipment.
Joseph Graves is the Secretary of Education for the state of South Dakota. He said the CTE grants will have a positive impact for years to come.
"They are an investment not only in the students of Hamlin, Estelline, and Arlington school districts, but also in the future of South Dakota. The grants ensure that South Dakota students will have bright, productive futures, and that our state will continue to be a powerhouse of industry, health care, and tourism for generations," said Graves.
The Department of Education has a second round of equipment grant opportunities scheduled for Spring 2024.
