South Dakota School of Mines search for a new president is making progress.

James Lochner is a regent on the South Dakota Board of Regents. At this month’s board meeting he said the staff has narrowed the search down to eight candidates.

Now they will interview those eight candidates in about two weeks and then narrow down further to four finalists.

He said they hope to finalize the decision for the president by Nov. 14 or 15.

Jackson Dircks is a Freeburg, Illinois, native. He is pursuing a degree in English, Journalism and Secondary Education at Augustana University and planning to graduate in May 2025. He plans to pursue a career in sports journalism.
