The Sioux Falls School District has named its next superintendent.
James Nold is taking over the role July 1.
A search for a new superintendent for the Sioux Falls School District began when current superintendent Jane Stavem announced her retirement in late October.
Nold said his largest focus for the district is meeting every child’s need. He said that starts with building an early childhood program.
“I would love to see funding be able to go to early childhood. We are one of the few states that do not have a state-funded early childhood. But obviously if that where to happen you would worry also, where would that money come from. So, currently we definitely want to make sure the K-12 education is fully funded," said Nold. "And to the best ability that we would be able to with the Legislature.”
Nold is accepting the position after serving in the district in various roles for the past 11 years. He most recently served as the assistant superintendent of administrative services for the district for the past nine years.
Carly Reiter is the Sioux Falls School Board president. She said the board’s search for a new superintendent led them back to internal promotion.
“The overwhelming response from your community, and what they want, is they want people who are familiar with Sioux Falls, people who have an educational background, people who can work with legislators and things of that nature. And then the fact that nearly 300 different independent times, Jamie Nold’s name was mentioned,” said Reiter.
Nold said he is honored to be the next leader for the largest school district in the state and one of the largest employers in the city.
