South Dakota State University launches Healthcare Systems Engineering degree

A new program at South Dakota State University will offer engineers a place in hospitals and medical clinics.

Students who complete the Healthcare Systems Engineering program will have a bachelor of science engineering degree. And, faculty members hope, the out-of-the-box thinking needed to streamline America's ungainly health care system.

Sanjeev Kumar, Ph.D., is the dean of the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering.

He's joined by Greg Heiberger, Ph.D., an associate dean in the College of Natural Sciences, and Yucheng Liu, Ph.D., the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and is a Duane Sander Endowed Professor.
