Tim Samaras, one of the world's best-known storm chasers, died in Friday's El Reno, Oklahoma, tornado along with his son, Paul Samaras, and chase partner Carl Young. Samaras, who chased storms for 30 years, was best known for sampling conditions inside a tornado, and measuring the lowest barometric pressure drop ever recorded inside of a tornado --the one that destroyed the town of Manchester, South Dakota, on June 24, 2003. Heitkamp knew and worked with Tim Samaras. Chip Redmond is the former president of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Weather Club that brought Samaras to campus in March. He was also chasing the tornado that killed Samaras.
