Approximately 35 firefighters are working toward full containment of a one and a half acre wildfire in the Black Hills.
The Grizzly fire is located in a fairly remote area- approximately one and a half miles east of Harney Peak. It was reported late Wednesday morning by a private helicopter business.
Scott Haas is the Acting District Ranger of the Hell Canyon Ranger District. He says the public is not in danger.
"It’s actually in a fairly remote spot within the wilderness area," says Haas. "It is not near any trails so things like Harney Peak- the trail system itself- or Custer State Park- things like that are not in threat right now."
Haas says although the fire is small it is complex due to its location in the Black Hills- and access is difficult because of hazard trees as well as slopes and rocks.
Haas says the area received about seven tenths of an inch of rain Wednesday night which helped decrease fire activity. He expects firefighters to be at the site of the fire for the next 3 days and says the public will continue to see smoke until full containment is achieved.
