The city of Mitchell has scheduled its curbside spring cleanup week for April 17-21.

During the week, residents can put oversized items out on the curb on the same day their garbage is collected. City crews will come and collect items separately from regular garbage collection.

To have their items picked up, residents must pay a $10 fee.

In announcing the event, the city also clarified items that will not be accepted, including trees and tree branches, yard waste, tires, batteries, and large amounts of construction or demolition material.

As part of the weeklong event, the Mitchell landfill will also be accepting pickup-sized garbage loads for no cost, compared to the usual $45-per-ton charge for general waste. These loads cannot contain commercial vehicle waste and tires, but the landfill’s office will collect batteries during the week.

The landfill will also have extended hours as part of the cleanup week. It will be open until 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and on the Saturdays of April 15 and 22, it will be open until 5 p.m.
