Aberdeen water filters malfunction; no contamination found

Residents of Aberdeen have been warned their drinking water could contain elevated risk of contaminants.

In a statement, the Aberdeen Water Works Treatment Plant reported malfunctions in two water filters, resulting in an elevated chance of disease in the water. One of those filters is back online as of Friday.

This comes months after public complaints and resignation of the city’s water superintendent.

A test sample taken July 10 found a notably higher presence of particles in the water than the standard for water deemed “safe.”

Importantly, testing has not found disease-causing organisms in the water. The city says residents do not need to boil their water – however the elderly, pregnant, immunocompromised or infants could be at increased risk of infection.
