Recent rainfall has drastically improved South Dakota’s outlook on the Drought Monitor.
The latest projection shows only 13 percent of the state facing dry conditions, mainly focused in the northwestern corner of the state.
A month ago, half the state was abnormally dry, including a large swath of the southeastern part of the state.
This time last year, 86 percent of the state was dry and over one-third was facing moderate drought conditions, according to historical data.
