The EPA is providing $3 million for cleanup and redevelopment projects across South Dakota.

The money is distributed through the state Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the state Science and Technology Authority.

Two million dollars of the funding is for high-priority contamination projects in Box Elder, Lake City, and Sioux Falls. One million will be used to assess and clean up the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead.

The funding is part of the EPA’s Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, and Cleanup Grant Programs. The program aims to help underdeveloped and overburdened populations.
