Black Hills National Forest eases fire restrictions

Stage 2 fire restrictions in the Black Hills National Forest are lifted as of Friday per Forest Service representatives.

A special order was implemented this month prohibiting all open fires on Forest Service land. That order is lifted on account of recent rains and a drop in temperatures.

Conditions are still dry though, and outdoors enthusiasts are still urged to use caution in the hills.

Stage 1 fire restrictions are still in place year-round. Those restrictions prohibit building campfires unless in an approved fire ring.

Foresters encourage people wanting to have campfires to contact local county officials to check for burn bans before their trip.
