Seasonal gates and recreation sites in the Black Hills National Forest closed Monday.
This only applies to sites that close for winter. A map of seasonal trails is available on the BHNF website.
The Forest Service says some of these gates are closed to protect wildlife and natural resources, while others are converted to snowmobile trails. Snowmobile trails are open until March 31.
Officials are asking the public to avoid parking in front of closed forest gates.
“Forest employees may be working behind the closed gate and are unable to exit the area if a vehicle has parked in front of the gate,” said public affairs officer Scott Jacobson.
Some campground and day use sites are also closed for the season. A list of sites that remain open is available on the forest service's website.
