Regional Health in Rapid City is announcing a multi-year renovation and expansion project.

The main hospital campus is slated to expand by about 250-thousand square feet.

Regional Health officials are calling the plans the most significant renovation and expansion project in its history.

The renovations include and expanded emergency department, main entrance and more room for in-patient beds.

Paulette Davidson – is the Chief Operations Officer for Regional Health Systems.

“It’s important to our region that we provide the best healthcare that we can provide. Rapid City Regional Hospital serves as a tertiary center for a five state region. So, other hospitals around us, within the five states, call us to transfer patients to us every day,” Davidson says. “So, not only in Rapid City, but across the region, many healthcare organizations depend on what we do here.”

Davidson says construction on the main campus begins in the spring.

In addition to the renovations at the main Regional Health Campus, the hospital organization is building a 10-acre Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute at the Buffalo Crossing development on Highway 16 just south of Rapid City.

Regional Health is a non-profit healthcare group. Officials say the construction and renovation will be self-funded. They say they currently do not have a projected final cost, but will announce that number in the coming months.
