Point-of-Care Testing

NPR

In The Moment … August 27, 2020 Show 890 Hour 1

For some South Dakotans, the pandemic has been a time to evaluate personal responsibility and make choices about wearing masks, gathering at large events, or staying home. For others, the pandemic has been a long stretch of isolation from loved ones, and isolation can have devastating consequences. Today we talk about South Dakotans in long term care facilities ... our elders, and some of the most vulnerable among us.

The Alzheimer's Association South Dakota has sent a letter to the Noem administration praising efforts to keep longterm care residents safe and asking the administration to take the next bold step. How can rapid, point-of-care testing to be leveraged in an effort to allow people who have been separated from loved ones to reunite? Joining us today for the conversation is Joe Schartz, Director of Public Policy, Alzheimer's Association South Dakota, along with Lee Raines, who has been personally impacted by pandemic separation.
