Telehealth In South Dakota

NPR

In The Moment … September 25, 2020 Show 910 Hour 2

Connection is more important than ever. That might mean a physical connection in a year of isolation. Or it might mean a technology connection as South Dakotans struggle with shrinking the digital divide. As COVID-19 numbers rise in the state, many patients are being treated through telehealth services. Which got us wondering about mental health services. What does tele-counseling look like? Is it effective? Is it private?

We reached out to frequent In the Moment guest Emilia Flint, Ph.D. She is a Clinical Psychologist specialist in Spearfish, South Dakota, and an associate professor at Black Hills State University. She introduced us to her colleague Dr. Michael Huxford, PSYD, who is a Clinical Psychologist specialist in Rapid City, South Dakota, and Assistant Professor, Psychology at Black Hills State University.

The three of us sat down together on Zoom to have a look at what some counseling might look like in 2020. You can see us in our offices on the In the Moment YouTube channel. Here's our conversation.
