Avera plans major building project in Aberdeen

Avera St. Luke’s Hospital is announcing a series of construction projects in Aberdeen. The health-care provider will spend more than $17 million on a plan to address behavioral health, orthopedics, women’s services and mental care.

Avera will construct a free-standing behavioral health facility near St. Luke’s Physician’s Plaza. The facility will be similar to a new Behavioral Health Urgent Care unit in Sioux Falls. The Aberdeen facility will double the number of beds for inpatient mental health care in the area.

The project also includes the renovation of a women’s health center and an orthopedics clinic. Avera plans to accommodate a new MRI machine at the orthopedics location.

Construction will take place over two years and begin later this summer.
