Avera Research Institute has received a new five-year grant for $5.4 million.
The grant comes from the Healthy Start initiative to improve maternal and infant health.
The funding establishes the Avera BIRTHS, or Bridging Inequities Regionally Through Healthy Start, program. Avera said the grant will work to provide comprehensive care and support services for South Dakota mothers, particularly in areas considered rural or underserved.
Kimberlee McKay, MD, is the BIRTHS co-project director and an Avera obstetrician/gynecologist. She joined "In the Moment" to share more about the impact of the grant and its community partners.
