Avera Health announces it is ending its participation with Humana Medicare Advantage at the end of the year. Officials cited ongoing issues that negatively impact patient care.
Avera Health has notified patients with Humana Medicare Advantage coverage about the change and encourage them to select a new plan during the Medicare open enrollment period from Oct. 15 - Dec. 7, 2024.
“At Avera, we want our patients to have an excellent experience. We understand this will mean a change for numerous patients. This was a difficult decision, but we feel it is in the best interest of our patients and providers”, said Stacey Lenker, Vice President of Payer Strategies at Avera Health. “We have made repeated attempts to resolve concerns with Humana, but continue to see these issues.”
This comes just weeks after Sanford Health also announced its termination with Humana. Sanford officials cited delays in patient care, barriers in scheduling, and denials of coverage, leading to financial burdens and stress to their patients.
