Saturday is National Drug Take-back Day, a twice-a-year event hosted by law enforcement agencies across the country allowing people to dispose of unneeded prescription medication.

It's organized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Attorney General Marty Jackley said it’s a safe way to get rid of potentially dangerous medication. It also helps keep these pills off the street.

“Unneeded or unused medication can be deadly if not prescribed for you,” Jackley said. “This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of such medications.”

Police departments and sheriff offices across the state are taking part. You can find a full list at the DEA's website.

Jackley said the last take-back day, held in October, nationally brought in more than 629,000 pounds of medication.
