Softball - SDPB State Championship Coverage

The journey may have been long and challenging at times, but South Dakota is finally underway with a sanctioned league of high school softball. This week, the season began for schools across the state.

The South Dakota high school activities association board of directors met Wednesday in Pierre. One of the items approved was the adoption of a 'run-rule' in the sport of softball.

Aberdeen has been chosen to host the inaugural state tournaments for the newly sanctioned high school girls softball season in 2023.

On Wednesday, the SDHSAA board of directors approved a recommendation from its executive members, deeming softball a spring sport for South Dakota.

A motion to sanction high school varsity softball in South Dakota was approved on Wednesday, meaning it'll begin for the 2022-23 school year.
