The 6th annual 605 Summer Classic witnessed some great moments on stage. We captured a couple of sets to include in this week's program. The Copoetics love to take their "old soul folk" on the road. However, this was a "home game" for the husband/wife duo. Louisa Soli-Holt learned to play the ukulele while the two lived in Hawaii. At the same time, Dan Finch was transitioning from bass guitar to the six-string. The Copoetics released "The Way of the Spirit Trail" during the summer of 2014 - a sound effort lyrically and nice on the ears. The 11 song album includes updates to their first four recordings.
The Kickback maintains a very loyal following in South Dakota even though native Billy Yost moved to Chicago about six years ago. He couldn't have been more excited when Jim Eno, a founding member of Spoon, talked to him about recording "Sorry All Over The Place" at his studio, Public Hi-Fi in Austin, Texas. The album was several years in the making and includes familiar songs like "Sting's Teacher Years."
In January, the indie rockers were listed on the Chicago Bands to Watch 2016 list by Do 312. The Kickback's 605 Summer Classic set demonstrates the band's tremendous growth since Yost's days of kickin' around Vermillion.
