Violinist Maya Anjali Buchanan is from the Black Hills and currently studies at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Her list of musical accomplishments is long. SDPB's Susan Hanson talked with Maya a few weeks ago when she was home on break.

Violinist Maya Anjali Buchanan performed the Violin Concerto by Jean Sibelius with the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra in April of 2018. Here's the first movement.

Susan Hanson has been the Radio Program Director at SDPB since 2007. Hanson started her career with SDPB Radio in 1999 as a part-time student producer in the newsroom. In the intervening years she’s been the Arts Advocate, a semi-regular newscaster and hosted every single on-air shift there is at SDPB Radio, along with a couple hosting gigs that no longer exist! She lives on a small acreage with her husband Tim and son George, as well as several chickens and a trio of friendly farm cats.
