This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.
In 2018, Mato Wayuhi stopped by the SDPB studios to perform and talk about his music with "In the Moment" host Lori Walsh.
At the time, Mato had been a South Dakota Tiny Desk fan favorite. His star was rising, but it was before he composed music for the award-winning show "Reservation Dogs" and the full-length feature film "War Pony." It was before he graduated from college.
Six years later, Mato Wayuhi returned to "In the Moment" for a conversation about his latest release: "Stankface Standing Soldier." In part one of the conversation, we talk about the name Mato Standing Soldier, the loss of his father, and what it's like to realize you have an album inside of you.
