South Dakota’s lone US representative voted to keep his colleague Liz Cheney in party leadership.
House Republicans voted to oust the Wyoming representative as conference chair because of her criticism of former President Donald Trump.
Dusty Johnson says he has disagreements with Cheney.
“But she’s a strong, conservative, independent voice,” Johnson says. “We need those qualities in leadership, and I voted against her removal.”
Cheney has publicly condemned Trump’s false claims of a stolen election, his role in the January 6th Capitol insurrection and his role in the Republican party going forward.
