Deadwood Sees Mild Pandemic Impact Compared To Other Gaming Communities

Deadwood

Casinos across the nation are struggling to recover from pandemic shutdowns.

But in Deadwood, the impact is less severe.

Casinos in Deadwood were the last in the nation to close their doors and the first to reopen them. They shut down for a little over a month last spring.  Revenue at Deadwood casinos declined 4.5 percent last year.

Mike Rodman is with the Deadwood Gaming Association. He says the future looks bright.

“State tourism is suggesting that the inquiries are showing that it’s going to be a blockbuster summer season.”

The American Gaming Association says the situation is worse in other states. New Mexico closed its casinos in March 2020 and did not reopen until after the new year. Their revenue fell by more than seventy-five percent.
