Nearly twenty thousand South Dakotans have registered as Republicans since July of last year. In that same timeframe, the state has gained approximately four thousand registered Democratic voters.
The South Dakota Secretary of State’s voter tracking system compiles the data. They say they are not aware of what is driving the uptick in Republican voter registration.
However, they do say the data is reliable and up to date.
Governor Noem has been inviting folks to move to the state for the past year. Last summer at a Fourth of July celebration at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, the governor invited conservatives from around the nation to make South Dakota their home.
