Governor Dennis Daugaard is proposing legislation to turn Blood Run into a new South Dakota state park.
Daugaard says the National Park Service recognized the site a national historic landmark about forty years ago.
“This year I will propose legislation to make this site South Dakota’s 13th State Park. As the first new state park since 1973 this unique location will provide new educational and outdoor recreational opportunities for our citizens.
Daugaard says the Blood Run area is southeast of Sioux Falls and includes a winding wooded creek, rolling hills, riverside bluffs and rock covered burial mounds.
