The South Dakota Senate State Affairs committee has approved a bill aimed at military families. The bill aids military spouses who need a license, certificate or registration when they move to South Dakota. Deb Bowman with the Governor’s office says South Dakota can make a difference to over a third of the military families in the state.
“About thirty five percent of military spouses in the workforce are in professions that require professional licenser or certification. When a military family is transferred to South Dakota, that family should not lose earning power for an extended period of time while the spouse seeks licenser in South Dakota,” says Bowman.
Bowman says this legislation is built on common sense and makes the moving process easier for military families. This bill passed out of committee unanimously. It goes next to the Senate floor.
