The South Dakota house passed a bill allowing veterans to receive credit for military training and experience. Under the bill military service can count towards meeting job requirements or getting a license. Representative Scott Parsley says this bill won’t get the immediate job for veterans but it can count towards it.
"So another words if you wanted to be a dental hygienist; you had time in service, you could come out and pass some of the classroom hours or some of the floor hours but you would still have to take the dental hygienist test in order to get your certification," says Parsley.
Parsley says currently South Dakota has thirty-six agencies requiring a license or certification for a job. He says this is aimed at making life easier for veterans who have returned home looking for work. The bill passed through the state house unanimously with no debate. It goes next to the state Senate.
