Public Safety Improvement Act Gains Committee Approval

The South Dakota House Judiciary Committee passed senate bill 70 also known as the Public Safety Improvement act. The piece of legislation aims to keep non-violent offenders out of prisons and into alternative correctional programs. South Dakota State Representative David Lust says there are three main keys to look at with this bill.

"The fiscal impact and benefits, the collaborative process involved in bringing this to you and finally, most importantly, the impact this will have on countless individuals and their family," says Lust.

Lust says this bill could be beneficial to many South Dakotans. This legislation passed through the committee unanimously. It will go next to the House floor.
