A bill to streamline the process for becoming an organ and tissue donor overcame its final legislative hurdle in Pierre on Tuesday.
The bill creates an on-line process through the State Department of Public Safety to become an organ tissue donor.
Republican State Senator Larry Rhoden is backing the bill.
“Today 116-thousand Americans are waiting for a lifesaving transplant. Three-thousand of those are located in the upper mid-west. The goal of House Bill 1217 is to increase the number of people who are register to be donors,” says Rhoden.
No one spoke against the bill on the Senate floor and it passed unanimously. It goes next to the governor’s desk.
