Two athletes with South Dakota ties are breathing a sigh of relief after being selected in the 2013 NBA Draft. One is going to the Milwaukee Bucks and the other to Boston. The Milwaukee Bucks are pleased to welcome SDSU graduate Nate Wolters to the team.
Drafted at number 38 overall and after a few trades in the 2013 NBA Draft, Nate Wolters became a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. Milwaukee Bucks General Manager John Hammond says getting Wolters in the second round was a gift.
"To get Nate in the second round; We always say this, so pardon me for saying it but I’m going to say it again. He’s a guy that we had on the board as a first round pick. There was others probably in the same category, other teams are saying the same thing about their second round pick. But we’re really excited to have Nate, you know to have a big guard," General Manager Hammond says.
Wolters has mutual feelings to be a member of the Bucks. He says he didn't know what to expect during the draft.
"Yeah I mean, it was a pretty wide open draft I think. So I think my range was pretty wide and I didn’t really know what to expect but in those crazy couple minutes I didn’t know where I was going but I’m sure glad it was the Milwaukee Bucks and I think it’s a great fit and I'm really looking forward to helping them out," Wolters says.
Wolters is the highest drafted player to ever come out of SDSU for basketball. He is also the first player to get drafted to the NBA from SDSU since 1981. Yankton native and Colorado State graduate Colton Iverson was also drafted at Thursday night’s draft. He is now a member of the Boston Celtics.
