Lawmakers are still reading through hundreds of pages from an audit of the Governors Office of Economic Development and the EB5 program. Governor Dennis Daugaard says he was glad there was no real wrongdoing-taking place and he says this can be labeled as a wake up call for all government agencies.
"I also recognized that there were a number of clerical errors and procedural errors that were identified, that’s not unusual in any audit. I know that the staff at the office of economic development are working to address those and improve procedures and address those kinds of things," Governor Daugaard says.
Daugaard says he’s eager to see what the legislative audit review reveals. Daugaard says the state’s auditor’s office is working on a proposal to specify the reimbursement requests and make it a more automated process. The Governor says systems will help minimize future errors.
