Lawmakers in Pierre are examining two audits released Thursday focusing on the Governor’s Officer of Economic Development and the Eb5 program. Governor Dennis Daugaard told lawmakers a few weeks ago he didn't expect any surprises not found by the Attorney General's investigation. Democratic Representative Kathy Tyler says the results didn’t surprise her either. She says regardless, the results may not have been thorough enough.
"Looking at the scope of the audits, they did not cover anything with South Dakota’s regional center, they did not cover anything with SDRC Inc. There was nothing about the EB5 program in any of the audits so I’m waiting for the Department of Legislative audit to come through. I also do have a bill that I will be submitting tomorrow for an oversight committee," Representative Tyler says.
Tyler says she plans to review the hundreds of pages presented and she says she'll work with other lawmakers to develop a plan to prevent something like this from happening again.
