The State House of Representatives passed House Bill 1192 on Wednesday. The bill recognizes the Mining Museum in Lead, as the official mining museum in the state of South Dakota. Republican State Representative Timothy Johns says this makes sense because of the mining culture in the Black Hills region.
"The Black Hills mining is not just a concept or an idea. It is a working museum and a cultural center that’s been operating for well over 25 years in its current location. The fact is, this museum was started nearly 40 years ago by four guys from Lead as they began collecting and displaying mining artifacts in various locations throughout the northern Black Hills," Johns say.
The House of Representatives passed House Bill 1192, 69-1. It goes next to the State Senate.
